| Q. |
You
offer choice of specialization out of two streams:
(1) Hospital Management and (2) Health Management.
How these streams are different in structure and
which one has more job prospects? |
| A. |
First
year is common to all the streams, which aims
at cultivating multidisciplinary skills of management
principles, Communication and health systems.
In second year each student has to select one
of the three streams in his / her second year
of postgraduate diploma. Hospital management is
about application of concepts and tools in an
institution-based (or, hospital-based) health
care system, which primarily caters to the curative
needs of the population. Health management provides
you with managerial skills primarily for community-based
health care system where preventive, promotive,
and curative needs of a certain section of population
are addressed. Graduates with specialization in
hospital management stream usually get jobs in
corporate and other private hospitals, while health
management students are usually absorbed in regional,
national, and international non-government agencies.
Job prospects for all the streams are equally
bright. However, students will have enough time
to assess the comparative scenario by themselves
since they have to decide the stream only after
the completion of the first year.
