The Institute focus is on health systems and health care research. It conducts and designs policy analysis and review and undertakes intervention research, evaluation studies and operation research studies. We do believe that while academic programme bring visibility, quality research brings credibility to the Institute. The key areas of research mainly include assessment surveys and studies in important health programmes, strengthening management of district health systems; involvement of PRIs and NGOs in reproductive and child health services; and alternative management approaches in implementing population programmes with district as the unit.
